Mentioning that I’m a hypnotist has different effects on people in social situations. Some consider it an invitation for free therapy. Some ask for advice. Others look warily. There are always a few who ask for advice about choosing a hypnotist or therapist.

I can see why. There is not that much information available on the subject. So I have decided to add my formula to the mix out there.

This is the way I would approach choosing a hypnotherapist FOR MYSELF. In most cases what is best for me is best for my clients. We both have the same intention, after all. Keep that in mind as you read, however, and make your own mind up on what I say.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool. It works on our unconscious minds and can change the way we see and interact with the world around us. It can enable us to achieve goals we wouldn’t have thought ourselves capable of, and can make a marked difference when it comes to losing weight.

Hypnosis is also powerless on its own. The best hypnotists in the world can’t force you to change through hypnotherapy alone. Other factors need to be present for hypnosis to be effective.

This is not particular to hypnosis. Seeds in fertile ground need moisture and the right temperature to sprout; ideas need the right environment to take hold; a garden needs tending to look the way you want it. Hypnosis is similar. With the right factors in place, hypnotherapy works much more smoothly. These factors help it trigger the right conditions to achieve goals.

October 20th 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the first study I know of dealing with diet-controlled weight loss and gain. This is also a study from another era. An era where science wasn’t sponsored by bodies with vested interests or practised by people who have to generate funding and be published in order to keep their jobs.
